There's Music in the Air

Webcasting Concerts Gains Popularity with Bands and Their Fans

by Geoff Daily, KillerApp Magazine, May 2007

The lights dim, the speakers crackle, the crowd quiets and the band begins to play.

But on the other side of the state, the country, or the world, some of the band’s biggest fans sit at home, unable to support their favorite group despite a strong desire to do so.

For Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9), an instrumental electronic jam band, and Dark Star Orchestra, a Grateful Dead tribute band, this paradigm needed to be shifted and they knew the Internet was the place to look.

What they both found was StreamerNet (www.streamernet.com), a Leesburg, Virginia–based company focused on enabling the webcasting of small to mid-sized events, like STS9 and Dark Star Orchestra concerts and the International Slug Fest boxing series.

StreamerNet™ Launches V*Ticket and MyTheater Content Distribution Technologies

V*Ticket™ and MyTheater™ Platforms Allow Content Owners to Monetize Online Digital Media Assets Through eCommerce Gateway

LEESBURG, VA February 8, 2007 -- StreamerNet Corporation today announced the roll-out of its V*Ticket and MyTheater Content Distribution Technologies (CDT) that will enable owners and producers of digital media content (both audio and video) to generate incremental revenues through StreamerNet online eCommerce gateways.

Designed to easily snap-on to existing web sites, the StreamerNet V*Ticket and MyTheater technologies let a wide variety of content owners generate new revenue very quickly and easily. Applications include:

•	Independent music performers
•	eLearning training producers
•	Corporate content producers
•	Faith-based ministries
•	Motivational presenters
•	OnDemand Media Library events and presentation
•	All forms of Live Performances

“The StreamerNet Content Distribution Technologies may well be the holy grail of web-based digital media monetization,” said William R. Hornbeck, president and Chief Executive Officer of StreamerNet Corporation. “The V*Ticket Gateway enables every content owner to be properly compensated for live streaming events as well as for on-demand access to authorized audio and video tracks and performances.”

The MyTheater Content Distribution Technology is a multi-functional media delivery platform that incorporates several features to enhance the revenues associated with privately owned audio and video assets. In addition to the online credit card admission and authorization process, StreamerNet technologies incorporate options for embedded live audience chat as well as the sale of adjunct products and services, such as advertising and sponsorships, surrounding the participation environment.

StreamerNet portal management and comprehensive reporting software tools enable the content owner to offer prepaid or free V*Ticket passes, send group e-mail to all audience members, and generate participation reports that show how many people watched what event, when, and how long, as well as output that will pinpoint the geographic location of each online audience member.

National touring independent label (Indie) music group, Dark Star Orchestra, utilized StreamerNet Content Distribution Technologies for delivery and administration of both privately controlled and royalty-based online music productions during the band’s Holiday and New Year performances. As The Dark Star Orchestra has formally embarked on its 2007 U.S. tour schedule, the band continues to use StreamerNet MyTheater to deliver live performance streams as well as to manage the online sales and web-based delivery of secure music downloads.

“The StreamerNet Content Distribution Technologies give us the ability to improve the social networking aspects of our fan base by offering a continual string of Live and OnDemand performances with built-in audience chat,” said Tim Walther, the group’s Manager and head of Walther Productions, an independent music promoter. “Our global audience is providing us with a strong indication that they are willing to pay for anytime access to our music and our live performances on the web. The MyTheater platform lets us generate incremental revenues that can improve the quality and mobility of our national and international tours. In addition, through the sale of online or onsite V*tickets at venues, we are improving our relationship with our fans and delivering greater access to our music.”

Based on specific criteria relating to each client’s business model and volume levels, StreamerNet offers a variety of MyTheater and V*Ticket pricing options based on service fees and revenue sharing opportunities. Details relating to the product launch can be found on the company’s web site at http://www.streamernet.com

StreamerNet™ Empowers Live Video Simulcast Of Regional Emmy Awards Broadcast

StreamerNet and TNDV Technologies Provide Expanded Audience Outreach and Monetization Platform for Audio/Video Content Owners

LEESBURG, VA and NASHVILLE, TN - January 26, 2007 -- StreamerNet Corporation, together with Tennessee Digital Video Inc. (TNDV) today announced that the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) will utilize the companies’ Internet streaming technologies and digital mobile television production services, respectively, to simulcast the broadcast of the 21st Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards live via the Internet.

“We are delighted to be the streaming broadcast technology platform for this regional Emmy Awards event,” stated William R. Hornbeck, president and CEO of StreamerNet. “As a regional event, the Midsouth Emmy Awards were previously available only to a finite population within the footprint of the local television stations covering the event. Now, the organizers and sponsors have a video distribution platform that allows universal access.”

Similar to any sponsor-supported television broadcast, online web streaming of the event increases its visibility and sponsor value as more viewers tune-in. This emerging area of the broadcast market is where StreamerNet is concentrating its efforts – primarily for content owners who are looking for ways to quickly and effectively monetize their productions.

“Internet streaming and the value-added technologies provided by StreamerNet offer a considerable boost in our ability to expand viewership for this or any other type of video production,” stated Nicholas E. Dugger, Tennessee Digital Video. “The midsouth Emmy Awards production is an ideal event at which to showcase StreamerNet and TNDV capabilities because the very people and organizations being recognized are also the leaders who understand how technology is transforming the broadcast industry in many interesting ways. We’re anticipating considerable interest to result from the Emmy stream production.”

WR Hornbeck, IPDI eNews 12/06

For the past sixty-five years, our society has lounged quietly on its collective recliner, absorbing the blue-white radiation of the television screen. Totally receptive. Totally passive. Totally at the mercy of the current stream of ‘now showing’.

That was then. This is now. And, the times they are a-changin’. Welcome to the world of the VGEN, i.e., the Video Generation, and welcome to the quick-click-show-it-now-make-your-point-and-move-along world of visual communication.

The StreamerNet Value

A short story to answer the question...

"Why StreamerNet? Isn't video easy, and can't I just do this myself?"

"Well, that depends.", we say.

If you wish to stream a U2 concert to the world, then you may want to use Akamai. They have thousands of media servers in hundreds of countries and they will be happy to discuss their options.

On the other hand, if you want to show the neighbor's poodle attacking a frog (or being attacked by one), then it is probably best to go with YouTube. You will have plenty of company.

Issues that relate to Business-oriented Video.

But, what are you going to do about streaming a live point-of-action event such as the Town Hall debate on new zoning issues to a specific, localized, and narrowcast audience? Or the CEO's presentation to employees and customers, or breaking news from the field?

What will you do about creating a short advertising video, in either an amateur or professional way, that tells your story? How will you distribute that video? Are you going to have your webmaster just put the video file up on your web server? How will you deliver that video to lots and lots of viewers?

How will you know who watched the video? or When and How Long?

Consider these basic facts about video capturing and distribution:

(1) You could pay someone a lot of money to do the things that StreamerNet does naturally.

(2) The place that you host your website, ie., your web server, is not the best place to host your videos. A video file is a "heavy" file and your web server is designed to deliver primarily text and static graphic images.

(3) Videos that are placed on a web server are limited in the number of viewers who can watch at the same time (usually less than 5 people or so) and usually reside on bandwidth 'pipes' at the ISP that are simply not suitable for video transmission.

(4) Videos that are meant for professional business distribution require the always ready, flexible, steady streaming, multiple viewership that can only be handled by a streaming media server.

(5) Videos that are placed on a web server are capturable and downloadable to the viewer's desktop for their possession and use (think Podcast). Videos that are 'streamed' from a streaming media server are like a film in a movie theater, ie., you step in, you watch, and you walk away with memories.

(6) A Streaming Media Server hosting agreement with a special provider can cost at least $200 per month just for the privilege of getting into the game.

(7) The complete end-to-end package from StreamerNet can be from $10 to less than $70 per month.

The StreamerNet Secret Sauce:

(1) You get it all in one low-cost package. Everything from the Streaming Media Servers, to the hosting, the delivery, the management and the comfort of knowing that everything is under one roof and in your control. In fact, there are those who tell us that there is no cost at all to the StreamerNet solution because of the revenue opportunities that arise from its use and from the actual savings that come from "not using" the myriad of people and products that had to be assembled before now.

(2) You get Detailed Video Reporting. Nowhere can you get the level of detailed analysis at this price point. Sure the big boys have ways of generating certain viewership reports. But not Mr. Merchant, Ms. Realtor, or all the others who find that their requirements fall way under the minimum-entry price points for those offerings.

(3) You can choose to host-and-deliver only and place all of your videos with StreamerNet, ie., your online video ads, your corporate presentations, your property walkabout videos, anything at all, purely for the power of the reporting features.

(4) You can choose the Mobile Video Producer, our WindowsXP desktop application, as the capture and upload tool to grab DV video from camera to computer. You can stream live events across the web, or use as a remote surveillance eye, or convert VCR/DVD media to web viewable format, or sling your home TV to your office, or create podcasts and deliver daily or weekly TV Shows and Radio Shows.

In short, you can make the process for video distribution easy and elegant. Simplify your task at hand with the power and ease-of-use of the overall StreamerNet Solution.

In fact, recent contract awards encompass critical industry sectors including broadcasting, publishing, government, corporate enterprise, telecommunications, utilities and others."

The Company indicated that recent contract awards, sales pipeline forecasts, patent portfolio developments, enhancements to the management team and timely accomplishment of critical technology milestones in the first three quarters of 2006 have enhanced its valuation significantly making this the ideal time to pursue a formal Series A round of VC/PE funding.

"We are currently in discussions with numerous candidate VC/PE organizations in the mid-Atlantic, Northeast and West Coast regions for this initial round of expansion capital," stated Hornbeck. "While we have considerable interest from many of the smaller VC firms to participate in a syndicate, we are primarily focused on finding a sole-source investor or perhaps a strategic leader for the round. This investor-partner will have a complementary portfolio and the interest and ability to contribute expertise and strategic support during our approaching strong revenue growth stage," added Hornbeck.

Streamernet™ Launches Version 3.0 of Flagship Mobile Video Producer℠ For Simplified Audio/Video Streaming

New User Interface Provides Step-by-Step Click-thru for Seven Primary Features

LEESBURG, VA and LAS VEGAS, NV, April 26, 2006 - StreamerNet Corporation today announced it has begun shipping Version 3.0 of its Mobile Video Producer℠ audio/video streaming application. The newest version of the company's flagship software solution takes ease-of-use to unmatched levels for seven key streaming functions.

Currently, these primary functions of the StreamerNet Mobile Video Producer solution include:

LIVE STREAMING -- Webcast "live" action events or capture video segments that can be edited and delivered at a later time

VIDEO EMAIL -- Send Video email without large attachment files (video/audio messages are retrieved via Web URL so recipient inbox is not overloaded)

WATCH MY CAMERA -- Real-time camera view of remote point-of-action environments can be seen on a remote computer, Smartphone or other handheld devices (surveillance, nanny-cam, remote eyes)

ON-DEMAND MEDIA ROOM -- Host your own library of videos in a private media library (storage and distribution is made easy and secure with password access options)

MY TV/RADIO SHOW -- Broadcast live or recorded Internet IPTV or Radio Shows (become your own radio/TV station)

SLING MY TV -- Transmit home TV to personal desktop/mobile computer

MEDIA CONVERSION -- Convert old CD/VHS/Beta SP libraries to web-viewable video archives streaming or on-demand distribution.

The StreamerNet Mobile Video Producer Version 3.0 has been significantly enhanced with a new graphical user interface (GUI) that helps users "launch" their chosen streaming function by simply dragging their cursor over the function icons and clicking options to activate each function. Once the function has been activated, lists of easy-to-follow steps are presented that take all the guess-work out of the process for each streaming function. From set-up to live streaming, the processes for all seven functions take no more than a few key-strokes and mouse clicks.

While the StreamerNet Mobile Video Producer is uniquely tailored for use with wireless network connections and in situations where mobility is crucial, the solutions are just as powerful in fixed network applications. Whether the application is in the enterprise/corporate environment, academic institutions or for personal/consumer use, StreamerNet has concentrated on making the solution simple, yet comprehensive, for a wide range of professional or casual implementations.

StreamerNet solutions are unique in the marketplace because they concentrate on direct point-to-point streaming at a moment's notice - a concept called "plug-and-play, click-and-stream™." This type of offering is dramatically different from most currently available streaming offerings which require significant set-up time and also require considerable resources and expense to facilitate.

"We are introducing a new wave of powerful streaming technologies that are throwing wide the door to consumer implementation," stated Todd Atchison, StreamerNet founder and Chief Scientist. "With the installation of our Mobile Video Producer on a laptop or mobile computer with a cellular wireless card and a personal DV camera, anyone can stream a live event, or deliver a product demonstration, from wherever they are located."

"The future of multimedia communication," added Atchison, "is moving quickly toward models where individuals will primarily be streaming content to micro-communities of content specific, highly interested viewers. These are the areas in which StreamerNet has concentrated its research, intellectual property and technology developments."

"Version 3.0 truly sets StreamerNet apart in the market, particularly the option for the inexperienced business user to create easy product video ads," stated David D. Hornbeck, owner of BoskoWood Unfinished Furniture in Nags Head, NC. "We were looking for a comprehensive streaming solution that would not only let us showcase our offerings better on eBay but also enhance our traditional online marketing through our web site. StreamerNet technology has enhanced our customer service tremendously."

Version 3.0 is being launched during the 2006 National Association of Broadcasters Conference and Exhibition (NAB2006) which is being held this week (April 22-27) in Las Vegas, NV

Prior to the introduction of StreamerNet, both business or consumer users interested in deploying fully wireless audio/video streaming and hosting would need to locate a wide-range of hard-to-find, hard-to-assemble, hard-to-use and hard-to-afford hosting and distribution services from multiple vendors in order to match the completeness of the StreamerNet solution.

StreamerNet technologies, which were initially developed in 2003 as advanced technology concepts, have been enhanced more than five times over the past three years.

StreamerNet™ and Stargate Mobile Deliver Mobile Audio/Video Streaming Technologies for Stargate's 'Mobile Office' Solution

StreamerNet Corporation and Stargate Mobile LLC today announced an agreement under which mobile audio/video streaming technologies will be offered as a standard option for Ford Motor Company F-150 and F-250 trucks shipped with the FORDLINK™ Mobile Office package.

Ford Motor Company announced the Mobile Office package in November at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. The following link takes you to the official Ford Motor Company announcement:

Ford Truck 'Mobile Office' Allows Business on the Go http://media.ford.com/newsroom/release_display.cfm?release=21909

The essence of the Stargate Mobile Office initiative is to bring to market a system that features a rugged but lightweight, in-truck computer (Stargate) running Windows XP Professional with Microsoft Office capabilities, plus navigation with GPS, broadband/wireless Internet access, printing, along with order submission, payment processing capabilities, and a variety of other mobile computing applications such as StreamerNet audio/video solutions.

The solution provides a very flexible computing platform from which a contractor can bid jobs, order and purchase parts and materials, and process payments while 'on location' from their truck.

"The Stargate Mobile Office is designed for businesses, large or small, that primarily operate out in the field," stated Johnny Cooper, president of Stargate Mobile. "This community includes a broad array of industry categories including construction (commercial and residential), utilities, sub-contractors, engineers, project management, emergency response, government and many others."

Stargate Mobile has been working with Ford since the inception of the Ford Mobile Office concept and has led the development of the Ford Mobile Office components. One of the biggest challenges the teams faced during development was understanding exactly what activities the contractor-customers were performing in the fields and then determining which business functions would be the most critical in a truck-based mobile office.

"We are very pleased to be a component of the Ford Mobile Office as we are confident real-time/on-demand video is an application that greatly enhances business productivity on the jobsite," stated William R. Hornbeck, president and CEO of StreamerNet. "Whether it is in the areas of quality assurance or sub-contractor coordination, the ability to activate live video sessions from the jobsite saves time and helps eliminate confusion among job-team members."

Under terms of the teaming agreement, StreamerNet and Stargate Mobile have already been working together for more than six months to develop, test and deploy the integrated computing and wireless audio/video platform.

The StreamerNet and Stargate Mobile teams are engaged with Ford at all levels and are fully prepared for the rollout. The Ford mobile office system is in development for inclusion as a dealer-installed accessory through the "Genuine Ford Accessories" program in 2006.

"StreamerNet multimedia software and solutions have already proven beneficial in jobsite deployments, however, the mobility and point-of-task computing power afforded by the Stargate Mobile computers allows contractors even greater flexibility and visibility at critical moments," added Hornbeck.

The Stargate Mobile computer is a rugged lightweight touch-screen slate model mounted on the transmission tunnel within easy reach of the driver. Once the computer is securely mounted in its vehicle cradle, it is powered by the truck's battery and is directly connected to optional equipment including GPS antenna, printer, credit card scanner, or digital camera.

The driver can remove the touch-screen computer and take it with him or her just as an ordinary laptop, but it isn't hampered by the unnecessary weight of a keyboard, unless that optional attachment is necessary. The lightweight, versatile slate design is also constructed to withstand the typical use on a jobsite, including the occasional drop onto a dirt parking lot. It features a screen that is visible in sunlight, so that several workers can huddle around for an impromptu meeting viewing blueprints or online order tracking.

The slate model computer offers full Windows XP Professional functionality with all the power of a full-size desktop computer whenever and wherever you need it, allowing the driver in-vehicle, finger-tip access to the familiar programs of the Windows XP-based PC.

Both companies are leaders in their respective markets -- Stargate Mobile in rugged/wireless computing, and StreamerNet in remote, wireless/mobile audio and video solutions.

"Our growing understanding of this community, its workforce and its industry-specific needs enables us to provide better solutions and greater benefits to our customers and partners," added Cooper.

About Stargate Mobile

"Stargate Mobile LLC" delivers unique mobile solutions providing users with the appropriate tools that differentiate them from the competition. Stargate Mobile is located in the midst of the domestic OEM giants of North America and specializes in developing and integrating computing technology for the automotive industry. Stargate technology addresses the needs of a variety of users groups, providing navigation, information, business tools, gaming and video/audio entertainment including mobile streaming capability. From wireless mobile computing to full telematics solutions, Stargate has the right technology to address the needs of people on the move!
Streamernet™ Corporation Introduces Live Streaming Technologies For Smartphones And Other Handheld Devices

First-of-its-Kind Technology Offers "Device-in-Hand" Live Video and Audio Streaming Capabilities for Government, Enterprise and Consumer Users

(Washington, DC - March 7, 2006) -- StreamerNet Corporation today announced that its mobile-wireless audio and video streaming technology enables owners of Windows® Mobile devices, such as the Treo™ 700w and other Smartphones, to view live audio and video streaming events straight from the remote camera to the handheld. In addition to remote viewing, the technology also enables the user to receive and watch video email on the handheld.

StreamerNet is showcasing its mobile streaming solutions this week at the FOSE government technology conference (Booth # 336) at the Washington Convention Center March 7-9.

StreamerNet solutions are unique in the marketplace because they concentrate on direct point-to-point streaming at a moment's notice - a concept called "plug-and-play, click-and-stream™." This type of offering is dramatically different from most currently available streaming offerings which require significant set-up time, require considerable resources/expense to facilitate and do not offer live remote-view options.

"We are at the forefront of a major shift in streaming capabilities," stated
William R. Hornbeck, president and CEO of StreamerNet Corporation. "Traditional streaming has primarily been available only in the form of expensive and technology intensive offerings such as large venue webcasting. StreamerNet is proud to be leading the charge toward more comprehensive and easy-to-use solutions that allow individuals or organizations to bring low-priced and personalized streaming options to their environment."

Widespread adoption of handheld and mobile computing devices, combined with strong growth in the expansion of wireless broadband, is a contributing factor in the shift to more mobile and more simplified streaming options. As higher broadband access speeds become available, individual devices can now more easily handle full audio and video streams whenever and wherever the user is located.

In order to bring live action video to a handheld device, the StreamerNet software application permits the user to attach a video camera to an Internet-connected computer, at the desired location, and then transmit real-time audio/video action directly to the remote handheld viewer. StreamerNet continues to refine its mobile streaming platform to take advantage of these enhancements. Support for Smartphones and other handheld devices presents several unique opportunities for its customers.

"From surveillance and security, to emergency management and command/control, to business management, entertainment or personal use, StreamerNet solutions present an easy-to-use methodology for mobile/remote video creation and viewing," added Hornbeck.

While all StreamerNet offerings to-date include both streaming media encoding software and viewer/player technologies, StreamerNet's currently-available Version 2.0 has been specifically enhanced with features that directly address the most prevalent evolutions in the market. These newest features include a variety of intuitive processes that enable the user to:

# Webcast live action events
# Send Video Email
# a real-time camera view on a Smartphone device
# Host distributed videos in a private OnDemand Media Room
# Broadcast global IPTV or Radio Show
# Send local TV to any desktop
# Convert old VHS tapes to web

Market trends point to a quickly changing computing and communications landscape and not merely in the consumer ranks. StreamerNet technologies, which were initially developed in 2003 as advanced technology concepts, have been enhanced more than four times over the past two years. The company expects to bring its formal Version 3.0 to market before the end of the first quarter 2006.

StreamerNet technologies provide the multimedia computing engine for a wide variety of mobile computing devices. These devices, which already exist in many forms, could be a laptop, cell/smartphone, hand-held PDA, wearable computer, or any number of yet-to-be-developed devices designed to retrieve and communicate data. Utilizing open computing standards, StreamerNet technologies ensure that these and other devices can take advantage of full multimedia - anytime, anywhere.

Streamernet™ Completes $1.0 Million In Private Equity Financings In Second Half Of 2005

(Leesburg, VA - January 12, 2006) -- StreamerNet™ Corporation today announced that it had secured approximately $1.0 million through private equity financings in the second half of 2005.

Details of the financings were not disclosed, however, the Company confirmed that the most recent financing round, which closed in late December, was approximately $500,000. This latest round of financing is the Company's third formal round of early-stage private equity.

"The financings in 2005 strengthen our cash position and allow us to aggressively pursue new business opportunities and market development," said William R. Hornbeck, president and CEO of StreamerNet. "Financings prior to 2005 were primarily applied to research and development of our core technologies and to intellectual property development and management. After more than three years of enhancements, our technologies are solid and are currently seeing broad acceptance in several key industry sectors. As a result, the recent 2005 financings will be allocated across a wider spectrum of operating categories. We will primarily use these proceeds for focused sales and marketing initiatives, channel strategies, business development, customer relationship management and continued success in rounding-out our management team. The completion of these financings allows the company to focus on both near term 2006 milestones and long term growth," he added.
